As paving season continues along Bathurst and Centre Streets, here's a look ahead for the next few weeks, including crosswalk street printing and traffic signal activation at the Highway 7-Bathurst Connecting Road. Please see below for further details.
paving on Centre Street:
work dates*: Tuesday, July 2 and over the next few weeks
work hours*: 7pm–7am [overnight]
- Over the next couple of weeks, crews will continue paving eastbound Centre Street from Dufferin Street to Bathurst Street and then flip to westbound lanes from Bathurst to Dufferin. This includes paving at the Disera‐North Promenade intersection tonight and tomorrow night.
- To accommodate this work, lane closures will occur in stages and traffic will be reduced around the work zone.
- As paving progresses through intersections, there will be short‐term access interruptions to side streets.
- Please follow signage in the area.
crosswalk street printing on Highway 7:
work dates*: Tuesday July 2 to Friday July 12
work hours*: 7pm–7am [overnight]
- Starting overnight tonight, crews will be installing the street printing at the intersection crosswalks of Bathurst‐Highway 7 Connecting Road, Hunter's Point, and the Yonge Connecting Road.
- Crosswalk street printing refers to road markings that clearly show where pedestrians are to cross the street at signalized intersections. The stamping gives the impression of a cobblestone path on the road.
- Short‐term lane closures will occur in stages around the work zone as needed.
milling on Bathurst Street and Dufferin Street:
work dates*: Wednesday July 3 to Wednesday July 10
work hours*: 7pm–7am [overnight]
- This week, crews will be milling the side streets along Bathurst St. overnight, from North Park Road to Flamingo Road in preparation for paving planned for later this summer.
- Crews will work their way around the intersection, then head northbound from North Park to Flamingo with each intersection taking approximately 2–5 hours.
- Once crews have finished the side streets off of Bathurst, they will mill the Dufferin and Centre intersection.
- To accommodate this work, lane closures will occur in stages, and at times traffic may be reduced to one lane in each direction.
- Please follow signage in the area.
Highway 7‐Bathurst Connecting Road traffic signal activation:
work dates*: Wednesday July 3
work hours*: 9:30am–3:30pm
- Crews will be activating new traffic signals at the intersection of Highway 7 and the Bathurst Connecting Road.
- During traffic signal activation, the old traffic lights will be out of service intermittently, in all directions. Expect to see the lights out or flashing.
- Highway 7 will be down to 1 lane in each direction around the work zone for the duration of this work.
- Paid duty police officers will be onsite for the duration of the work to control traffic as needed.
general impacts:
- Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite to direct traffic as required.
- Following each paving operation, traffic lines will be re‐painted and lanes will be re‐opened once the new asphalt has cooled.
- Due to the nature of this work, there will be construction‐related noise from equipment and trucks.
- Access to properties will be maintained; however, driveways may be reduced or temporarily disrupted. Advance notice and signage will be provided wherever possible.
- Wherever possible, sidewalks and bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop or sidewalk is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
- Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
We understand that overnight work is disruptive to those who live and work in the area, and have taken steps to reduce the impacts where possible. While we aim to balance the needs of commuters, businesses, area residents, the community at large and the project, night work is sometimes unavoidable.
| crews dedicated to minimize disruption where possible:
|
- Limit the reversing of vehicles with back-up safety beeper.
- Aim headlights away from buildings and homes.
- Reduce the banging noise from dump truck tailgates.
- Set up portable lights in a way that limits upcasting onto buildings.
- Ensure equipment is well maintained and running well.
