16th Avenue road closure at Yonge

As crews continue to relocate and install underground utilities, 16th Avenue at Yonge Street will be temporarily closed for approximately two days. As crews trench across 16th at the Yonge intersection, there will be no thru traffic on 16th for the duration of this work.

work dates*: Friday, May 4 – Sunday, May 6
work hours*: 8pm on Friday, May 4 – 6pm on Sunday, May 6; working 24/7

what you need to know:

  • Access to businesses and properties near the work areas will be maintained, however the exit from South Hill Shopping Centre onto westbound 16th will be closed for the duration of this work.
  • Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians around the closure.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be noise and dust from equipment.
  • Paid duty police officers will be on site to help direct traffic as needed.
  • Expect delays and give yourself enough time to get to your destination.

Sidewalk, crosswalk and bus stop impacts:

  • Bus stop #3026 will be temporarily relocated just west of the Yonge and Carrville Road/16th intersection.
  • Sidewalks and crosswalks around the work area may be temporarily closed for the duration of this work. Directional signs will be onsite to guide pedestrians around the work zone.

We understand that overnight work is disruptive to those who live and work in the area, and have taken steps to reduce the impacts where possible. While we aim to balance the needs of commuters, businesses, area residents, the community at large and the project, night work is sometimes unavoidable.

crews dedicated to minimize disruption where possible:

  • Limit the reversing of vehicles with back-up safety beeper.
  • Aim headlights away from buildings and homes.
  • Reduce the banging noise from dump truck tailgates.
  • Set up portable lights in a way that limits upcasting onto buildings.
  • Ensure equipment is well maintained and running well.
