project milestone >> construction of first vivastation begins on Yonge

July 06, 2018

Next week, crews will reach a project milestone when they begin installing the caissons for the foundation of the first vivastation platform on Yonge Street, at Mulock Drive in Newmarket. Please see below for more details.

Road Widening and paving

work dates*: Monday, July 9, for approximately 3 weeks
work hours*: 7:30am – 7pm

what you need to know:

  • In order to install the caissons, crews will be working on the east side of Yonge, within the current work zone.
  • To accommodate this work, Yonge will, at times, be reduced to one northbound lane between 7:30am – 3:30pm as crews pour concrete to install the caissons.
  • On Monday, the northbound Mulock bus stop #9806, on the northeast corner of Yonge and Mulock, will be temporarily relocated to the southeast corner of the intersection. Directional signs will be onsite to guide pedestrians around the work area.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please expect delays and give yourself enough time to get to your destination. Remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

safety is a shared responsibilityl

Summertime means replacing our winter tires and boots with bikes and running shoes. It also means that it is a busy season as construction ramps up for all the vivaNext projects. As the streets become livelier, the safety of everyone is a top priority.

To assist in getting the message out, you will notice signs and barrels out on rapidway construction routes to guide and raise awareness. To find out even more, check out our latest blog and video.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible. Watch twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.
