With road widening activities underway on Yonge Street in Newmarket, residents and businesses can expect to see lots of construction activity along the corridor.

daily northbound and southbound lane closures on Yonge

This week, expect daily lane closures on Yonge as early as 7:30 am for both southbound and northbound traffic to accommodate various construction activities.

work dates*: Monday, July 16 – Friday, July 20
work hours*: 7am – 7pm

what you need to know:

  • On the west side of Yonge, crews will be paving the raised bike lanes and pouring concrete for the planter boxes and new sidewalks from Sawmill Valley Drive to Eagle Street West.
  • At times, northbound and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Please give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination and drive with care.

overnight paving and line painting between Gladman and Davis

Overnight on Wednesday, crews will remove traffic lines, pave, and paint new lines on Yonge Street between Gladman Avenue and Davis Drive.

work dates*: Wednesday, July 18
work hours*: 7pm - 7am, overnight

what you need to know:

  • Crews will shift the traffic to the west side of Yonge to start road widening works on the east side of the road between Gladman and Davis.
  • Northbound and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, within the work zone.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be on site to direct traffic.
  • There will be construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.
  • Expect delays, and please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

crews dedicated to minimize disruption where possible:

  • Limit the reversing of vehicles with back-up safety beeper
  • Aim headlights away from buildings and homes
  • Reduce the banging noise from dump truck tailgates
  • Set up portable lights in a way that limits upcasting onto buildings
  • Ensure equipment is well maintained and running well
